Mini-interview Gerhard Schuil at AC2A

Written by on December 10, 2011 in Uncategorized - No comments

Door: Annamara Hamersma (@Anna_Hamersma)

Gerhard Schuil (@GerhardSchuil), director Oikos, focus on Fairtrade

Gerhard Schuil is very busy today at ACall2Action giving an opening speech and being involved in solution centre no. 1: Stimulating Sustainable Consumer Behaviour. “I think that we need to focus on seducing consumers to share information online about fair trade. Only giving information is not enough, people need to be triggered to get something more out of it”. Just thinking out loud, Gerhard adds that people that publish information on fair trade products they use should get points and when reaching a high score get a product for free. “We need a game element in fair trade, something to seduce the consumers.”

Consumers trust other consumers

Gerard says that overall, consumers trust each other and are not likely to go for companies that are greenwashing their work or labels that promote fair trade. “I think in the future, when 25% of the consumers choose for sustainable products and inform others about it, companies will follow them because they are afraid to miss out.”

‘Op zoek naar ware liefde.’ Blog by Thomas van Gaal from #P4C Partners4Change

Written by on December 10, 2011 in blog - No comments

ID-Leaks world changing?

Written by on December 10, 2011 in Uncategorized - No comments

Door Wilco van Bokhorst (@WilcovBokhorst)

Today is A Call 2 Action, a vivid event of JongOS where creative youngsters are excited to do development cooperation in a different and innovative way. During the first of three meetings ID-Leaks was born. With the passionate guidance of Tabitha Gerrits, this group discusses development cooperation with criticasters online.

“The money only goes to corrupt dictators! Let Muslims in Ethiopia pray to Allah for their food! All the money does not go to project, but to the organisations themselves or to the fat salaries of directors!” A lot of these arguments are being used to talk in an unnuanced manner about development cooperation. But what is even worse, the sector itself does not responds or responds defensively.

ID-leaks wants to  change this! Through our facebook page we keep each other posted on online critique! We respond on their fora with critical questions, by reletivating or by giving answers. ID-Leaks does something what the development organisations do not do: respond and join the discussion with people who think sceptical about development cooperation!

During AC2A Gerhard Shuil, Director of Oikos, said in his speech that one of the structural problems of development cooperation is the lack of trust and the framing of the sector. ID-Leaks wants to change this!

Refreshing? YES! Necessary? Yes! Innovative? Yes! Therefore, vote #ID-leaks @AC2Avote on Twitter now!

What is A Call 2 Action?

Written by on November 26, 2011 in home - No comments
slide2

A Call 2 Action is an open movement where people can find each other to work on the transition of “traditional development aid” towards mutually beneficial international cooperation, that is internalized into all aspects of (global) society and not bound to specific institutions. From all different disciplines and backgrounds, everyone can join!

To achieve this, several action groups have started working on the transition of development aid in January 2011 at the A Call 2 Action kick-off. Each action group has a coach and a digital group on the JongOS website where group members discuss and follow up. Through follow up sessions on May 21st and September 17th, the groups were guided to a successful implementation of their plans. On 10 December we will celebrate this year of action and make sure new deals come up to continue the movement in 2012.

Join us on 10 December and create your own deal. Click here for the program.
