Today is A Call 2 Action, a vivid event of JongOS where creative youngsters are excited to do development cooperation in a different and innovative way. During the first of three meetings ID-Leaks was born. With the passionate guidance of Tabitha Gerrits, this group discusses development cooperation with criticasters online.
“The money only goes to corrupt dictators! Let Muslims in Ethiopia pray to Allah for their food! All the money does not go to project, but to the organisations themselves or to the fat salaries of directors!” A lot of these arguments are being used to talk in an unnuanced manner about development cooperation. But what is even worse, the sector itself does not responds or responds defensively.
ID-leaks wants to change this! Through our facebook page we keep each other posted on online critique! We respond on their fora with critical questions, by reletivating or by giving answers. ID-Leaks does something what the development organisations do not do: respond and join the discussion with people who think sceptical about development cooperation!
During AC2A Gerhard Shuil, Director of Oikos, said in his speech that one of the structural problems of development cooperation is the lack of trust and the framing of the sector. ID-Leaks wants to change this!
Refreshing? YES! Necessary? Yes! Innovative? Yes! Therefore, vote #ID-leaks @AC2Avote on Twitter now!
